It is the Coast Guard motto.

The author attended the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, from 1979 to 1981. She was a member of the Class of 1983. When she arrived at the Academy in the summer of 1979, it was only the fourth year that women were even allowed into any of America's Military Academies. She was proud to have been a part of it, but chose not to make the military her career.

This story is a fictional murder mystery that takes place at the United States Coast Guard Academy...
